Colle al Fico, we read on the winery's website, is one of the best estate crus of cantina Petra. The name derives from the toponym of the vineyard where the Syrah grapes used in purity in this wine come from. The vineyard is located in San Lorenzo. Here the vines have an average age of 17 years and grow on clay-limestone soil. The hot Tuscan climate is mitigated by the sea breeze, which gives the wine a great minerality. Syrah, originally from the Rhone Valley in France, has found a second home in the heart of Tuscany. It is known for its ability to produce wines of great structure and complexity, with spicy, fruity and underwood aromas. In this case, after vinification, Colle al Fico is aged for about 12 months in 20% new French barriques. This passage gives the wine greater complexity and structure, as well as smoothing out the tannins and making them softer. In the glass it has a beautiful, intense and brilliant ruby red colour. The nose offers a broad and complex bouquet, with spicy, underbrush and vanilla notes. In the mouth, it is dry, full-bodied and mineral, with a freshness that makes it pleasant and drinkable. A wine to be paired with meat dishes and cheeses. A wine to be drunk young, it can be kept for a few years to allow it to evolve and acquire greater complexity. ...
