Raise your hand if, thinking of Piedmont, you don't make the mistake of thinking of it as an 'exclusively' red region. This is not serious. It is a common belief. The truth is that while the vast majority of wines produced in the region are indeed red, the few whites that are born in the shadow of the Alps are characterised by a level of quality that is simply unique. A fine example is this pure Arneis, proposed by Pelassa. The grapes come mainly from the estate's vineyards located in the Frazione San Vito di Montì d'Alba. The wine, which matures for a couple of months on its noble lees before being bottled, has a beautiful intense straw yellow colour in the glass. The nose reveals a delicate, complex, persuasive and floral bouquet. It is reminiscent, for botany enthusiasts, of delicate broom and sweet chamomile, with light perceptions of honey and jam. In the mouth, it is dry and harmonious, with a pleasant acidulous vein that gives freshness and persistence. Very particular is its natural minerality, typical of the Arneis of Montì d'Alba. For its complexity, Roero Arneis is even described as a 'Barolo Bianco'. Ideal throughout a meal, it is perfect with hors d'oeuvres and fish dishes. Even excellent as an aperitif. ...
