The label reads Toscana IGT. But don't be misled. In fact Fontalloro is one of the most representative wines of the Fèlsina estate. 100% Sangiovese grapes from the vineyards in the upper part of the estate, in the Chianti Classico area, and partly from the Chianti Colli Senesi area, at altitudes between 330 and 400 metres above sea level. With a south-west exposure and different soils, partly rocky, partly calcareous and clayey or rich in sand, silt and marine sediments, Fontalloro has been produced continuously since 1983. Matured in new and first-passage French oak barriques, after about 18-22 months it is assembled and bottled. Then, before being put on sale, it rests in glass for at least another 8-12 months. Ruby red colour with good intensity, on the nose you can easily distinguish the typical notes of red and dark fruit, with accentuated sensations of tobacco and wet earth. In the mouth it reveals a good tannicity, with soft and pleasant tannins. Good consistency, structure and persistence. It is a wine born not to fear the passage of time. Excellent today, if well preserved, especially in the best vintages, it is able to mature slowly for many years. ...
