Once upon a time, there were few wineries offering a pure Ciliegiolo. This grape was mainly destined to be part of the Chianti blends, in support of the typical Sangiovese. Yet this grape has shown that it has what it takes to give life to deeply territorial wines of great pleasantness. And so it is that more and more often now, you come across a bottle like the one proposed here by Mastrojanni. "Deep and savoury, typical of the grape variety and the soils in which it is born", this is how it is described. It is a Toscana IGT, 100% Ciliegiolo, matured in barrels for a period of around 8 months, before bottling and at least a further 4 months in the cellar waiting for the wine to reach full maturity. In the glass it has a beautiful, intense colour with almost impenetrable violet reflections. The nose is certainly not shy. On the contrary, it shows great intensity, with notes reminiscent of ripe cherries, accompanied by blueberry jam. In the mouth, it is opulent and soft, with sweet tannins that underline the pleasant savouriness typical of the variety. It is a very pleasant red wine. An easy to match wine that can accompany pasta, roast white meats and charcuterie platters every day. A must try! ...
