Born from the fascinating hills of the Marche region, Tenuta Cocci Grifoni's Rosso Piceno DOC Superiore San Basso. A true tribute to the territory, a celebration of the beauty and richness of these lands. The estate's vineyards are located on hills at an altitude between 230 and 250 metres above sea level, with a south-west exposure that guarantees optimal sunshine. The soils here are clayey and contribute to giving the wines a robust structure and extraordinary aromatic complexity. San Basso is a blend of 55% Montepulciano and 45% Sangiovese, two grape varieties that together create a perfect balance between body and freshness. Harvesting is done manually in the first ten days of October. Vinification begins with maceration of the grapes at a controlled temperature, followed by alcoholic fermentation. The ageing process is then divided into two phases: 50% of the blend matures in stainless steel and in 40/50 hectolitre Slavonian oak casks for 12 months. The remaining 50%, on the other hand, matures in cement. After bottling, the wine then matures for at least another 4 months before release, thus acquiring further complexity. San Basso reveals itself to be enveloping and complex. On the nose, intense notes of sour cherries in spirit and violets emerge, enriched by fresh nuances of rosemary. In the mouth, it is harmonious and well-balanced, with silky tannins and a freshness that makes every sip satisfying. The fruity and floral notes blend elegantly, giving a long and pleasant finish. This wine is ideal with rich, flavoursome dishes. Perfect with red meats, game and mature cheeses, it also pairs beautifully with robust first courses such as pappardelle with wild boar ragout or baked lasagne. ...
