We speak of Kretzer referring to rosé born from Lagrein grapes, a technique that was already widespread in the Middle Ages. The name "Kretzer" comes from the word "Kretze," a woven wicker basket in which the must was strained, to separate the juice from the skins. Today, production techniques have refined, of course. But the principle is still the same. It only takes a few hours of contact between must and skins to color the liquid just the right shade of pink. In this case, the Lagrein grapes come from vineyards in Bolzano, at 260 meters above sea level, with roots sinking into deep sandy soils of alluvial origin. In the winery, the technique used is the "salasso" method. About half of the grapes are pressed, while the other half of the must instead rests on the skins for a few hours before fermentation. Once the two parts are combined, the fermentation phase follows, in temperature-controlled stainless steel. Brilliant cherry pink in color, this rosé seduces with its fresh, playful aromas. A fruity bouquet, with cherry, raspberry and currant. In the mouth, however, it has a full structure, pleasant acidity and fine. The Muri-Gries house rosé, despite its pleasant drinkability, has the character and lingering finish of a red wine.
